About Us
Rainbow Restoration of Columbia, SC and Community United Foundation
partner together to host the
Rainbow Restoration Charity Golf Classic,
which benefits young mothers battling stage IV cancer.
Since 2014, this tournament has been held at Cobblestone Park Golf Club in Blythewood, SC.
Our mission is to create an entertaining event that allows individuals and companies to join together in the common goal of raising funds for young mothers and their families, in hopes they can focus more on their battle and less on financial issues.
In 2011, Reed Mattingly, owner of Rainbow, held a golf tournament to raise money for a local charity. The next year, he learned about the wife of a friend/business colleague, who was battling stage IV breast cancer. He decided to dedicate that year’s tournament to raising funds for them. The event raised $20,000 and was such a huge success, Reed was inspired to dedicate all future golf tournaments to the support of other young mothers battling stage IV cancer.
This event has become a successful tradition because of the heartfelt support from businesses and individuals, who share the same desire to help. Since 2012, $662,081.62 has been gifted to 35 families from our local communities.
Although the financial support is amazing, it is the overwhelming emotional support from everyone involved that is even more meaningful to our "Rainbow Warriors". Our surviving warriors provide support, assistance, guidance and love to each other as they are all in the fight against this terrible disease. It's a strong sisterhood born from their shared experiences as beneficiaries from this charity tournament.

Who are the Rainbow Warriors?
Hi, my name is Samantha. I was a beneficiary in 2016 for the Rainbow Restoration Charity Golf Tournament and I am a member of the Rainbow Warriors. The Rainbow Warriors is group of strong women made up of past beneficiaries. None of us wanted the road that cancer took us on, but once you are dealt this card, you have to find the blessings and the positives. The biggest blessing for me has been meeting everyone that is part of the Rainbow Restoration Charity Golf Tournament. I am now blessed each year to meet moms that will become part of an amazing sisterhood…a kinship and closeness to a group of women who understand what you deal with every day. We are here for each other anytime of day or night. We know all the horrible side effects and the things you are going through. We will be here to make you laugh or as a shoulder to cry on. We use private group messages so you can join in on a conversation, ask a question, or sit back and know we are here for you.
One time during a group chat someone said we needed a name for our group. Since Rainbow Restoration brought us together and we are warriors, we decided our group name would be Rainbow Warriors.
After all…
We have been broken, we have been knocked down, we have been defeated and felt pain that most couldn’t handle, BUT we look fear in the eyes, day after day. We do not run or hide. We always find a way to get back up because we are unbreakable. We are
Rainbow Warriors!
During the day of the tournament, you will feel an amazing support system from the players, volunteers and golf committee. Thanks to this amazing event, I have made friends with people that truly love, support and care about me and my family's well-being.

How to Become a Rainbow Warrior
Our goal in raising money for our “Rainbow Warriors” is to give them some relief from the constant financial stress cancer puts on the family and allow them an opportunity to take a vacation or do something that finances may not normally allow.
The application process opens up in January and ends at the beginning of February. Applications may be submitted by a medical professional from a treating facility, the candidate, family members or friends. All information is kept confidential and viewed by the golf committee during the selection process. There may be a need for further clarification on information submitted and verification of cancer stage if the applications are not submitted by a medical professional/facility.
Selections are made by the golf committee during their February meeting. Candidates chosen will be notified that same day of their selection. 4 beneficiaries are chosen each year.
In order to qualify to be a beneficiary, candidates must meet the following criteria:
·Women with stage IV cancer
·Reside in Columbia or the surrounding communities (within a 60-mile radius of the statehouse)
·Have children between the ages of 0-18
Once beneficiaries are selected, they will need to provide a photo of themselves and their family to be used in the tournament information packet and in social media posts. Information about our beneficiaries will not be posted until approval has been received.
Beneficiaries and their spouses/partners will be asked to meet us at the Rainbow Restoration office in March. This will give us all a chance to meet each other, hear more about our beneficiaries’ journeys, discuss the tournament and answer questions. Former beneficiaries and golf committee members will be in attendance.
The charity golf classic takes place mid-May. Beneficiaries and their families/friends will be asked to attend. This gives the sponsors, golfers, volunteers and special guests a chance to meet the individuals benefiting from their support. It’s a fun day filled with the support of a community of strangers who have hearts for giving!
A week after the tournament, beneficiaries will be asked to join us for the gifting meeting. This gives our newest Rainbow Warriors a chance to give feedback on their experience as well as receive their checks.
When you become a Rainbow Warrior, you join a group of ladies who support each other on their cancer journeys. It’s a sisterhood born from the experience of being a beneficiary of this charity event. Rainbow Warriors are invited to come back to the tournament every year to support the newest group of beneficiaries and to continue to enjoy the support and love from our amazing community of supporters.
